How do I apply the concept of Connected Planning?

Creating a Sustainable Business Strategy

Planning allows management to bridge the gap between vision and execution. It is the phase where strategy is built to meet the specific goals of a product or service. In a world where the wrong move can lead to collapse, having a "right" strategy isn't enough; you need the insight to know when that strategy has expired. Success today requires a balance of disciplined planning and the courage to pivot.

Planning session participants use the following standard strategic planning techniques to produce a business plan:

  •  External and Internal Assessment
  • Goal and SWOT Analysis
  • Porter Analysis
  • Business Model Canvas
  • Customer Journey

Remember to do these:

  • Set Goals and SMART Objectives
  • Create a Sustainable Business Strategy
  • Link Strategy to Value-based Outcomes
  • Identify Capabilities, Processes, Datafows
  • Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate
  • Know when to Pivot when necessary
  • Exploit and Leverage Data Insights
  •

When the Planning phase is complete, participants have a dynamic plan that meets the identified mission and purpose of the organization.  This plan is captured in a set of planning statements that form the foundation for the project.

Planning Statements

The Planning phase culminates in a series of strategic statements that articulate the organization's entire trajectory—from high-level vision down to tactical execution and governance. By using precise business language, these statements establish the essential framework needed to ensure that all subsequent business models remain fully aligned with organizational requirements.

Each planning statement is assigned a statement type. There are many predefined statement types:

Vision

Critical Success Factor

Assumption

Objective

Mission

Policy

Strength

Tactic

Weakness

Task

Opportunity

Business Event

Threat

Business Rule

Goal

System Event

Strategy

System Requirement

Issue for Resolution

System Design Objective

Your organization may use different terms for these types, so you may add different statement types using the Planning Statement Types function.
